Course Description
Directed toward Spanish majors preparing for their Capstone experience, this 2 unit course aims to guide the student in the process of completing a capstone proposal and initiating the preliminary steps toward the graduation portfolio. The portfolio provides evidence that a student is making satisfactory progress toward meeting the Core requirements and Major Learning Outcomes (MLOs) for the Spanish B.A.
Course Summary
During my pre-capstone seminar we were provided with many reading assignments that helped us learn how to conduct academic research while also deciding what our final Capstone topic will be. Profesor Rafael Gomez put us in groups to coordinate and help each other while conducting research on our topics. We also observed some videos in class that we analyzed as a class in order to determine wether or not it was a credible source of information by critically thinking about the target audience, the information being presented, and what evidence was being used to gain credibility.A significant assignment that allowed us to better hone in what direction we'd like to take our Capstone project included the creation of a power point presentation. Once completing the assignment we were to present what our potential topic was, the research questions we created, what methods of research we used, all while also providing five main sources for our study that would help or benefit our research. We also had to present an outline of our paper, a summary or potential abstract while creating and showing a schedule for the following Capstone semester an approximation of when we will be completing specific components of the project. During this time we also began an ePortfolio through this Weebly website where we were obligated to record and reflect on making progress towards satisfying major learning outcomes for the Spanish degree.
